EMU student robbed while texting

An Eastern Michigan Univerisity student was robbed of his cell phone early Tuesday morning while walking on the 300 block of Perrin Street.

According to a release issued by EMU Police, at about 1 a.m. the student was texting on his cell phone when the suspect grabbed the phone and punched the victim in the head. The suspect then ran off.

The student was not seriously injured.

The victim and witnesses described the suspect as a 6-foot-tall black man, approximately 18 years of age, with long dread locks. Witnesses said he was wearing blue jeans, a light colored shirt and a backwards red hat.

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact the Ypsilanti Police at (734) 483-9510.
