“Source Code”
Starring: Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan, Vera Farmiga; Director: Duncan Jones
When a Chicago train gets blown up, the government uses a top-secret experiment called ‘source code’ to send Captain Colter Stevens (Gyllenhaal) to the body of a man who died in the explosion eight minutes before the bomber strikes. He goes back over and over to try to stop the explosion, so long as love doesn’t get in the way.
With Gyllenhaal being much more of an indie moviegoer draw, it should be interesting to see how he does in a thriller alongside fellow Oscar nominee Farmiga.
“Insidious”
Starring: Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Ty Simpkins; Director: James Wan
In this haunting story reimagined, a young boy is trapped in the world inside his mind while his family suffers the wrath of the sprits that are drawn to his comatose body.
While this movie is being released on April Fool’s Day, it’s no joke that it was written by the same person who wrote several Saw movies and was produced by Oren Pell, the director of “Paranormal Activity.” If you’re a fan of thrillers, check out this flick.
“Hop”
Starring: Russell Brand, James Marsden, Elizabeth Perkins; Director: Tim Hill
This story of the rebellious teenager who runs away to make it big as a music star takes on the twist of being the Easter Bunny’s son. E.B. (Brand) doesn’t want to take over for his dad (Hugh Laurie) as the King of Easter. He crashes in on Fred (Marsden) who accidentally hits him on the way home from work. But, when it’s up to E.B. to save the holiday, the pair team up to defeat the evil Easter Chick Carlos (Hank Azaria).
If this blend of live action and animation is anywhere near as good the last film Chris Meledandri produced (“Despicable Me”), it should be as sweet as a Peep on Easter morning.
At the Student Center: “Little Fockers”
