Police encountered a man yelling with a beer can in his hand at Ballard and West Cross streets at 8:38 p.m. Officers calmed the man down and found that he had warrants out for his arrest. The man was too inebriated to be taken to jail, so police released him to the hospital with a citation for drunkenness.
Jan. 19
Officers responded to the sound of breaking glass at Cornell Apartments at 1:15 a.m. and came across a group of underage students cleaning up the glass from the broken window. Upon interaction with the students, officers discovered they were intoxicated. The issue has been turned over to university housing, and the students will face consequences under the Student Code of Conduct.
Two students were approached by officers in the Mayhew Lot for disturbing the peace at 1:53 a.m.
The two students, a male and a female, were in a verbal dispute about insults that took place earlier that evening. The dispute was not physical.
A teenage boy was stopped for a traffic violation at Hewitt Road and Washtenaw Avenue at 3:37 a.m. Upon investigation, officers discovered that the driver was not the owner of the vehicle. The young man, who did not have a driver’s license, had taken a family member’s car without permission. The unlicensed teenager was released to his parents and will face charges for driving without a license.
A male student left his backpack unattended under a table in the Dining Commons at 8:23 p.m.
When he returned, he was very upset to find that his backpack was gone, and punched a wall. The punch caused minor damages. He will face consequences for the damages under the Student Code of Conduct. Officers recovered the stolen backpack after reviewing security footage, and it was returned to its owner.
Jan. 20
A night watch employee in Downing Hall called police to report a very drunk young woman in the building at 2:47 a.m. When police found the young woman, who was not a student, they discovered she was underage. The underage young woman was transported to the hospital and will not be charged.
