Ypsilanti’s historic Depot Town offers many things to the local community with unique shops lining Cross Street. Eyrie has been adding to that community for a little while now and has recently changed locations to 50 East Cross Street while still embodying the fun and quirky personality of the Depot Town Community.
Janet Rook, the owner of Eyrie, said she was “tired of generalness” and wanted to provide an outlet for something different, and that is just what Eyrie has become. Rook has worked in many different fields and is now enjoying being a part of the exciting and unique Depot Town community.
At Eyrie, many local Michigan artists and Ypsilantians have found a place to share their creativity, and to display their hidden talents and unique pieces. Eyrie offers a wide variety that is not likely to be found anywhere else and gives customers a plethora or items to choose from.
Eyrie sells a variety of Ypsilanti inspired cards, pictures, magnets, and pins, as well as jewelry inspired by local Ypsilanti places.
If you are trying to find the perfect creative art piece to hang on your wall, here you will find local photography pieces, carved wooden signs, and whimsical pictures with quotes. There is also a large selection of uniquely handcrafted jewelry pieces ranging from Petoskey Stone necklaces to adjustable ear cuffs.
Eyrie not only is unique in what it carries but also in its approach to the community. Rook shared that she emphasizes fair trade and fair wages to all the different artists whose pieces she carries.
Rook is always sure the artists she receives work from are given fair prices for their work.
Eyrie can be seen around town at different events and Rook shared she is hoping to be involved in an upcoming block party later this fall for EMU students. Make sure to look for her and all these unique treasures there. This shop, because of Rooks hard work along with the talented artists, and the many who support them has brought a positive impactful element into the Depot Town Community!
