The Ypsilanti Police Department is investigating a reported aggravated assault that took place around 4 a.m. Sunday morning near the intersection of Washtenaw Avenue and Normal Street.

The female victim was not an Eastern Michigan University student. She told police that a suspect, which she described as a black male who was between 50 years old and 60 years old, asked her for a cigarette and then hit her in the face several times. The suspect then pulled her into a nearby ally.

The victim was able to escape. It is not clear if the victim sustained any major injuries.

The suspect fled west on Washtenaw Avenue on foot, but YPD and EMU officers were not able to locate the suspect after searching the area.

The victim said the suspect stood at about 5 feet, 8 inches with a medium build and pock-marked face. The man also had a mustache and was last seen wearing a black winter hat, dark puffy coat and dark pants.

Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact Ypsilanti Police at (734) 487-1222.
