Kayla Boyd was one among the many 2016 spring graduates. Boyd graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism, Apparel and Textile Merchandising from Eastern Michigan University.

For the past four years, she served as a staff writer at the Eastern Echo. Additionally, Boyd was the Arts and Entertainment section editor during her fourth year. Her involvement at the Echo has granted Boyd work experience as well as an edge on applications for future colleges and jobs.

Journalism has always been in Boyd’s sights. In elementary school, she wrote poetry and stories. Suddenly, a movie revealed the possibility of a career filled with writing. This film was the spark that ignited Boyd’s passion to pursue a career as a journalist. Boyd has worked extensively every year to become a journalist. Her dream career would be at Elle or Vogue. However, Boyd would be happy with working anywhere in the field of journalism due to her love of writing.

Involvement in the Echo and other campus activities enhanced her college experience and increased her confidence. A fond memory of Boyd from her time at the Echo is receiving an award for Feature Story of the Year. Studying abroad in Italy, London and Paris are some of Boyd’s favorite memories at EMU. It was both a teaching experience for her major and enjoyable.

Boyd is very appreciative of the experience she acquired from EMU and the Eastern Echo. “It has really helped me prepare for my future, and I will always be proud to be an Eagle.”

Boyd’s next step of her career is Syracuse in New York, NY.
