Thursday, July 21

“Multiple subjects found [were] found fighting in [the] street,” at 12:32 a.m., Thursday, July 21, according to the EMU Crime Log. Officers from the Department of Public Safety broke up the fight on Cross Street, near Jimmy Johns, and gave one of the six non-students involved a ticket for public intoxication. No charges are being sought.

Friday, July 22

A patrolling DPS officer came across an intoxicated non-student on the corner of Ballard and Cross Streets at 3:18 a.m., Friday, July 22. The man was transported to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and released to medical staff.

Saturday, July 23

DPS pulled over a car at the intersection of Forest and Rice Street at 1:15 a.m., Saturday, July 23. One of the three people inside the vehicle was a missing 16-year-old girl from Ypsilanti Township. She was transported back to her mother. The driver was issued a citation for possessing drug paraphernalia.

Police watched a car crash into a rock embankment at the corner of Washtenaw Avenue and Oakwood Street at 2:30 a.m. The 28-year-old man from Washington D.C. that was behind the wheel was not injured in the crash, but appeared intoxicated. He failed a field sobriety test and a breathalyzer test. He was arrested and DPS is seeking charges with the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

There are no crimes reported for Sunday, July 24.

Monday, July 25

Back in May of this year an EMU student got out of a relationship that involved domestic violence. Between May 3, 2016 and July 23, 2016, the student has received a number of phone calls from the ex, who is currently in prison. The student called DPS at 11:35 a.m., Thursday, to put a stop to the phone calls. DPS has issued a trespassing order for stalking and according to a DPS spokesman, steps are being taken to shield the student from further harassment.

A driver that was pulled over at the corner of Huron and Kramer Streets was issued a citation for possession of narcotics equipment and marijuana, on top of being arrested on a bench warrant at 4:05 p.m. The non-student was driven to the Washtenaw County Jail.

Tuesday, July 26

DPS stopped a 46-year-old Detroit man at the corner of Perrin and Cross Streets at 1:02 a.m., Tuesday, July 26. The officer discovered what is believed to be crack cocaine. This was confiscated and sent to the state crime lab. DPS plans to seek charges with the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office, pending the results.

A car was pulled over at the corner of Le Forge Road and Huron River Drive at 4:50 p.m. for a simple traffic stop. Narcotics were found in the car and the 37 year old Ypsilanti man was issued an appearance citation.
