The Depot Town Association is hosted is annual tree-lighting celebration. During the festivities carolers and everyday Ypsilanti residents bundled up as they awaited for the lighting of the tree in the city's historic Depot Town on Cross St.
At 6 p.m. Santa and Mrs.Clause paid a visit. Parents and children got their photos taken alongside them.
As everyone counted down with Santa the tree was lit and carolers began to sing Christmas songs. The lighting was followed by free cookies and hot chocolate across the street at Cafe Ollie.
Joe Meyers is a new resident that recently moved to Ypsilanti a year ago and experienced his first Depot Town Tree Lighting. He had previously been to the tree lighting ceremony in Detroit so Ypsilanti’s was completely new to him.
“It’s really nice to see a bunch of people here in Depot Town for the tree lighting and just starting to get into the festive spirit,” he said.
