Adorn You at Eastern Michigan University

The Eastern Michigan University organization You Beautiful Black Woman (YBBW) and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. held a couple’s event “Adorn You” Feb. 11 in the Student Center where four couples competed to test their couples’ knowledge.

There was a slight delay in the beginning, but that didn’t seem to bother people as music filled the room, some attendees engaged in light conversations, Candis Caldwell sold Valentine-themed treats and a few audience members played a love-themed game of unscramble the words for a chance to win a prize.

Candii Cakes, a business started by Candis Caldwell, has been to many events to sell her delicious treats that many students go crazy for.

“I’ve been doing this for almost three years, and I loved the event,” Caldwell said.

The four couples who also came up with team names were Sophie and Andre, Sweet and Sour; Talia and Jalen, Beauty and the Beast; Patrice and Kamal, The Caramels; and Kourtni and Landon, Love-ianna.

A couple rounds were played, starting with “Stack of Hearts” where the ladies placed a popsicle stick in their mouth while the men placed as many heart shaped candies on top, and the most after one-minute won the points.

The second game “Defying Gravity” was for the men only, and each contestant had to hit three blown-up balloons and keep them in the air, and whoever had the most at the end took the points.

Game three “Cookie Monster” was for the ladies, and each lady placed an oreo cookie on their forehead and try to get it to their mouths without using their hands. Not every game had a romantic theme to it but was still very fun for everyone.

The second round didn’t have as many games but was filled with questions called “The Newly Wed Game.” A member of YBBW asked the couples a series of questions about their partner, and they had to write their answer down on a small dry-erase board, and whichever couple had matching answers earned a point.

The last game “The Strawberry Game” had each lady sit on a chair away from their boyfriend, and the men were blindfolded and tried to find their girlfriends by the sound of their voice and feed them a piece of strawberry.

After all the games and questions, Sophie and Andre, team Sweet and Sour, who have been dating for one year and five months, were the winners of the event.

“I was on a dance team and Kappa Alpha Psi founded the team on campus, and we had a little get together, and I met him through there,” Sophie Jackson, an EMU student and the Sweet to Sweet and Sour, explained. “It was really fun. We learned a lot about other couples here and each other,” Jackson added.
