Dodie is back again with a new release from her upcoming album “Build A Problem”. This song is a release of a fan-favorite titled “Rainbow.” It is just as wonderful as the rest of her music and I am elated to be able to finally download it onto playlists. It is such a gorgeous song that makes me even more excited for the upcoming release in March.

“Rainbow” has been a song that has been on Dodie’s setlist prior to its official release. She originally released the song as a video on YouTube in 2018, describing it as a song written about the LGBTQ+ community and the struggle we face as well as the importance and significance of the “pride” and the rainbow flag.

As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, the song has always resonated with me. It is a beautiful recognition of the struggles we go through. It feels as though someone is looking through our eyes and it is a calming resolution. It is hopeful and stunning. We all know that I never fail to be impressed with Dodie’s music, but this song is special.

It is amazing how a song can make you feel so much when the parts are so simple. It is soft and slow. On the surface, it is nothing overly powerful or moving, but the added strings in the background for the professional release add an emotional element to it. It is warm and comforting. It brings back a wonderful memory involving this particular song.

I had the privilege of being able to see Dodie live in September of last year, before COVID-19 hit. While we were in line for the show, several people handed out different colored paper hearts. During “Rainbow” at the show, the audience all shone their flashlights through the pieces of paper to reflect the rainbow lights that lit up the stage. It was such a moving experience. The whole audience drenched in hues of every color just singing along in unison was one of the best things I’ve ever experienced.

Hearing the song released as a professionally recorded track brought me back to that magical moment. I remember the feeling of being packed in the Majestic Theatre in Detroit, surrounded by other faces and voices living in that exact moment. Many of those faces share the exact same experience that is being sung about and that is the magic of the song. I will admit it did make me a bit emotional to go through that again.

I am happy to have been able to remember that one amazing moment in a time of need like this. “Rainbow” is a part of Dodie’s upcoming debut album “Build A Problem” set to release on March 5. The album will include older tracks like “Rainbow” and several new and wonderful ones we have yet to hear. I highly recommend giving the song a listen if you get the chance.

That being said, this song makes me very excited for the new album. I already have my copy pre-ordered, and I can’t wait to hear all of the new releases as well as relive the memories of the old ones.
