Jonas Berzanskis and Kandy Fredrick are hosting “Zoom Community Open Mic,” through the Triple Goddess Tasting Room, located in Ypsilanti, every Wednesday from 7-9 p.m.

Zoom Community Open Mic, an event where members of the community can come and showcase their talents, whether it be music, poetry, or some other sort of medium. The hosts, Jonas Berzanskis and Kandy Fredrick founded the event with a mission to get people in the community to play their music while at home during the pandemic.

Berzanskis and his band played at many different open mic events when he finally decided that it was time to settle down and play at one location. So, he spoke with the owner of the Unity Vibration brewery and was able to start the weekly open mic event. Three months later, he met Fredrick, who manages and markets the event, and now they are co-hosts.

“We started having a lot more people come to open mics. Once COVID hit, and we were basically shut down, Jonas mentioned that we can do this online. So, we started doing it as a community effort to get people to play their music,” Fredrick said.

While the Zoom open mic nights are still growing within the community, there are a few performers who have become regulars. Musician, Milan Seth admits that when he performs, it's a blessing to have people who are willing to come and listen to his music. Seth has played at these open mics with his band a few times.

“I have tried to make music a part of my life for a long time. Indeed to have a musical outlet in my life. I feel like I just need to do it. It's a very important outlet. For me to touch an audience in any way possible is a blessing,” Seth said.

The Zoom community open mic nights have been popular for the different types of music that community members have to offer. Berzanskis and Fredrick are open to many different performances, and the two of them are looking forward to growing the weekly event and seeing new faces.

The link to the Zoom calls can be found on the Triple Goddess Tasting Room Facebook page.

The "Zoom Community Open Mics" plan to resume in-person open mic nights at the original location once it is safe to do so at their original location at Unity Vibration Brewery & Triple Goddess Tasting Room, located at 93 Ecorse Road, Ypsilanti, MI.
