Advice: How to make registering for classes a piece of cake.

At the end of every high school semester, people would always talk about where they were traveling during break; but now that I am a college student, that topic has dramatically changed to dealing with scheduling and registering for classes instead. To be honest, when I was first admitted to EMU, I had no clue how to schedule or choose classes. No lie, it is not as easy as it seems, especially when just beginning as a freshman. However, if you follow these easy steps, registering for classes will be a breeze.

First and foremost, meet with an advisor! I reccomend that you don’t make any choices or register for any classes before meeting with your advisor. Just by meeting an advisor, so many things will become clearer to you, such as what you have completed and any prerequisites you may need when it comes to your specific fields classes. Initially, I honestly thought meeting with an advisor was unnecessary, but believe me, you don’t want to be in that position. Meet with an advisor at least a week before the deadline.

Secondly, after meeting an advisor, you need to look at the time and day that your registration opens. The advisor is typically going to guide you through it all by providing a list of general education courses that fulfill both major and gen-ed requirements. That is actually a great way to save your time and maybe even graduate earlier! The next steps are totally on you. This includes deciding which courses you need to take according to your estimated credit hours and scholarship requirements, as well as whether or not you are a a member of the Honors College.

Finally, choose class times and professors. This step is going to determine your schedule, whether your classes are online or in person, and if you are going to have a hard time dealing with tough graders! So, choose a class time, then look up professors on the rate my professors website. According to others' ratings, you will be able to tell if someone is a tough grader, makes student work on group projects, or if they give students a ton of homework. While you don't always get a choice, I believe that the professor can truly make or break a class, so this step is super important.

To conclude, if you are looking to make registering for classes easier, I advise that you follow the steps I provided in this article! Here’s to a great Winter 2022 semester.
