Eastern Michigan University Provost and Executive Vice President Jack Kay has announced he will step down from his post at the end of June.

Kay, appointed to the position Aug. 1,2009, served almost two years as provost.

Walter Kraft, EMU’s Vice President for Communications, said Kay made the decision based upon “personal reasons” and will be returning to the classroom as a professor in the department of communication, media and theatre arts.

“Provost Kay indicates that he is looking forward to resuming his career as a teacher-scholar and to continue contributing to the success of Eastern Michigan University,” Kraft said in a brief release to EMU faculty and staff.

A representative for the university did not expound upon any further details regarding the matter, but said Kay will provide more information about his decision early next week.
