The Michigan Court of Appeals has maintained the first-degree murder verdict of a man convicted of sexually assaulting and killing an Eastern Michigan University student in her Hill Hall dorm room.

Orange Taylor III of Southfield was convicted by a Washtenaw County jury in 2008 for the 2006 murder of 22-year-old Laura Dickinson.

Taylor appealed the decision and said his lawyer was “ineffective and should have cross-examined a medical examiner.”

The appeals court decision released Wednesday denied his claim.

Taylor is serving a mandatory life sentence in prison without parole.
