Faculty, staff and students were evacuated from Pray-Harrold twice between 1-2 p.m. Monday.

Heavy amounts of dust—due to ongoing construction—interfered with the building’s ventilation system, which activated fire alarms, according to Eastern Michigan University’s Department of Public Safety.

Ypsilanti Fire Department and ambulances remained on campus until the fire alarms were reset. The reset process took roughly 5-10 min.

DPS confirmed it wasn’t the first time alarms were activated due to complications with vents; CrossRoads MarketPlace and the lower level of DPS are sites of similar situations.
