According to a report by the BBC and multiple news outlets, North Korean leader Kim Jon-Il has died.

After suffering a stroke in 2008 and being absent from the public in recent months, there was much speculation about the state of his health.

MSNBC reported that in September 2010, it was unveiled his third son, the twenty-something Kim Jong Un, would be his successor, putting him in high-ranking posts.

Following the announcement on North Korean television news, the North Korean military has been put on alert. There are worries among North Korea’s government and citizens that Kim’s death may cause an uprising much like the one that occurred in Libya earlier this year.
