Soccer ties Detroit Mercy
Eastern Michigan University dominated The University of Detroit Mercy in shots, 24-8, on Tuesday afternoon in Detroit but was unable to score a goal in the 0-0 double-overtime draw.
The Eagles (1-0-2) had their opportunities, out shooting their opponents in both halves and the two overtime frames.
Chelsea Detrick narrowly missed the goal late in regulation and with 2:20 left in the second overtime she came close again, sending a shot off of the crossbar.
Maggie Manville made seven saves for EMU to record her second consecutive shutout.
Detroit Mercy dropped to 1-1-1.
EMU plays Michigan State at 5 p.m. today in East Lansing.
Men’s cross country competes in Michigan Open
EMU began its season in the Michigan Open, a non-scoring event at Hudson Mills Park on Aug. 29 in Dexter.
Curtis Vollmar was the highest finishing Eagle, finishing 8th, completing the 10,000-meter event in a time of 33:18. Luke Chrusciel was 10th, with a time of 33:43. Kenneth Wassus, who ran in his first event for EMU, finished 13th in 34:27.
The Eagles compete in the Bowling Green Invitational 10 a.m. Sept. 13 in Bowling Green, Ohio.
Volleyball goes 1-2 in William & Mary
The volleyball team took part in the William & Mary Invitational Aug. 29-30 in Williamsburg, Va. – going 1-2 in the tournament.
The Eagles defeated Appalachian State, 3-1. They went on to get swept, 3-0, by William & Mary. Jill Wolosiansky had seven kills in the losing effort, as did Victoria Randolph.
EMU wrapped up the tournament with a 3-2 loss to Maryland-Baltimore County. Hayvolla Leite led the Eagles with 14 kills in the loss.
EMU plays in Bradley Tournament today through tomorrow in Peoria, Ill. The Eagles’ first match is 11 a.m. against SIU-Edwardsville, and their second is 8 p.m. against UW-Milwaukee. They play host-team Bradley 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
