A federal court jury today acquitted a Washtenaw County sheriff’s deputy of civil rights violation in the 2006 asphyxiation of an Ypsilanti Township man.
“I’m very happy,’’ suspended deputy Joseph Eberle said after a 12-member jury in Detroit acquitted him in the death of Clifton Lee Jr., who died after a scuffle with deputies and State Police after he intervened in a traffic stop involving Lee’s nephew.
