Eastern Michigan survives Davenport

Scoring the game’s final 16, Eastern Michigan University beat previously undefeated Davenport University, 76-66, Saturday at the Convocation Center.

The run started with a Brandon Bowdry layup to pull the Eagles (4-2) within four with 3:17 remaining. Carlos Medlock followed with a 3-pointer and the team made 11 of 12 free throws to put it away.

Brandon Bowdry goes for a layup Saturday. He had his third double-double.

Possibly related:

Medlock had a career-best 32 points. He had scored 26 on two separate occasions. Bowdry, who didn’t start, recorded his third double-double with 21 points and 15 rebounds.

“It’s not the name on the front of the jersey,” said coach Charles Ramsey of Davenport, a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics team from Grand Rapids. “They were 7-0. I don’t care who they played or who they beat, and they played like that. They’re a very good ball club.”

Davenport led by as much as eight in the first half and 34-29 at halftime. Nathan Cox had 26 points and four 3-pointers.

Justin Dobbins didn’t play because of an injury suffered Tuesday against Southeast Missouri State. Ramsey wouldn’t elaborate any further and said he’s questionable for Monday’s 7 p.m. home game against Canisius (N.Y.) College.
