Though there are several clusters of fraternity and sorority houses scattered throughout Ypsilanti, Normal Street seems to boast the highest concentration and could be thought of as Eastern Michigan University’s ‘Greek Row.’

As an alum of Eastern, I was an Arm of Honor member from spring of 1961 to June of 1965 when I graduated.
Those were some of the best years of my life, and will never forget the brothers, the parties, the interfraternity sports, and the winning of the All-Sports Trophy the last two years I was in school.
My fraternity is the oldest on campus, and may be the oldest local fraternity in the United States. Dr. Lloyd Olds and Elton Rynearson were of my fraternity, and now have buildings and stadiums named for them.
We are very proud of the members accomplishments through the years, and know there will be many more to come.
What I don’t understand in the Greek system, is the university’s almost total absence from it. When I was in school, the university was in charge of rush, fraternity house inspections, interfraternity sports, Greek Week, and so on. Now it seems they are only involved in recognition.
If Greek life is to flourish at Eastern, I really believe the university must be more actively involved

“It’s disgusting,” said Tyler Durdin, a member of Phi Sigma Kappa. “I mean, it’s a bunch of dudes living together. I really think that there’s a distinctive brand of nasty in every different house.

Really? “Tyler Durdin?” Was someone having a bit of fun with the writer? Did he offer to sell you any soap? Join Project Mayhem, did you?

I am Jack’s overwhelming disappointment with the Echo’s fact checking.
