Students no longer being able to claim an official June graduation date and a change in how financial aid is dispersed are just a few of the new changes being rolled out following Eastern Michigan University’s decision to reclassify its separate spring and summer terms into a single summer semester.

I’ve already written to the university. I’m disgusted that this change was made only 2 months before summer semester begins, and AFTER winter semester has begun. How many students had plans to take a single spring class and then be done, with plans to move on in July? How many have jobs lined up in July or August and now have to change their plans? This was not timed well.

This is ridiculous! For students like me that will be graduating this year, it is a COMPLETE inconvenience. I have been patient in the five years I have been here with all the other unprofessional decisions the EMU administration has made but this is the worse. The federal government requires things from the states and, in this case, the universities that forces them to make changes to keep the government assistance coming. WHY WEREN’T WE NOTIFIED EARLIER OF SUCH A HUGE CHANGE??? This again goes to show where the students stand in the eyes of the EMU administration. As a third-generation McIntosh here at EMU, the school I was once proud to attend has placed another obstacle in my path to graduation and success. Thanks…
