The Eastern Michigan University men’s wrestling team will be looking for another victory this Sunday as it heads to Edwardsville, Ill., for a quad match up.

The Eagles will be facing off against Southern Illinois University (3-9), University of Missouri (8-2) and Truman State University (2-6).

Since losing to Central Michigan University at home on Jan. 15, the Eagles have gone on to win every one of their matches. The team has defeated
Clarion University, Indiana Tech and Olivet in the weeks after the loss and the team improved its record last weekend to an overall 11-4 this year
after a 22-9 victory against the Northern Illinois Huskies.

“I don’t think the will to win was increased or motivated by the loss to Central,” Coach Derek DelPorto said. “We believe we could have defeated every team we wrestled this year. Our sport requires a very short-term memory. You have to put wins and losses behind you and stay focused on the long-term goals.”

Redshirt senior Corey Philips, starting wrestler at the 141-lbs weight class, was asked about the upcoming quad.

“This week will be a great test for us against a powerhouse program like Missouri,” Philips said. “Our program has made huge strides this season and coming out of this weekend 3-0 will be big for us heading into our final two MAC duals.”

Missouri is currently 8-2 and is ranked 14th in the nation in the USA today coaches poll.

The Eagles are currently 2-1 in the Mid-American Conference standings behind only the Chippewas (4-0) and the Kent State Golden Eagles (3-0).
Wrestling will begin at 9 a.m. at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville on Sunday, as the Eagles will try to continue their success this season.
