The Eastern Michigan University baseball team will look to continue its success at home during a three-game series against Central Michigan University starting at 6 p.m. Friday at Oestrike Stadium.
The Eagles have posted a 6-3 record at Oestrike Stadium this season but is 6-14 away from home.
Eastern Michigan (13-18, 6-3 Mid-American Conference) leads the MAC West after sweeping the Western Michigan Broncos in a three-game series last week. The Broncos were 5-0 in the MAC at the time.
Central Michigan (14-18, 5-4 MAC) enters the contest third in the MAC West.
A sweep for Central Michigan would almost certainly put the Chippewas in first place while EMU hopes to increase its conference lead.
Leading the way for the Eagles is senior utility man Brent Ohrman, who was selected as the MAC West Player of the Week on Monday.
Ohrman completed last weekend hitting 10-for-15 (.667) in the sweep of Western Michigan and increased his batting average to .347.
Ohrman added eight runs and three RBI during the weekend to put Eastern in the MAC West lead.
On top of his success at the plate, Ohrman also leads the team with 14 stolen bases in 18 attempts.
Central Michigan has found success this season at the plate. The Chippewas are leading the MAC in runs scored with junior middle infielder Jordan Dean leading the way.
The junior is hitting .373, which is fifth in the MAC. Jordan is also leading the conference in hits and runs scored, while he is fifth in homeruns.
While the men are battling at home, the Eastern Michigan softball team heads to Ohio to play four games over the course of three days.
The Eagles will start with a doubleheader on Friday against Bowling Green University and then turn back toward Michigan but not before a two game series against Toledo on Saturday and Sunday.
EMU (15-21, 4-4 MAC) will look to reverse its misfortunes on the road with a couple of big wins in conference play. The Eagles are 5-12 on the road and are fourth in the MAC West.
Bowling Green (21-14, 6-3 MAC) has played good ball of late, winning three of its last four games. The Falcons have displayed good pitching and fielding and have been led by the freshman-pitching duo of Jamie Kertes and Paris Imholz.
The two have combined for 19 wins and 11 complete games. Imholz has recorded a 2.14 earned run average while Kertes has posted a 2.30 ERA.
As a result of strong performances, Bowling Green is second in the MAC with a combined 2.37 ERA.
After the two-game set with Bowling Green, the Eagles will head to Toledo and play the struggling Rockets.
Toledo (10-24, 3-5 MAC) has struggled this season and is near the bottom of every statistical category in the MAC.
The story for the Rockets has been the team’s lack of a solid pitcher. Toledo has struggled on the mound, allowing a 6.23 ERA. The Rockets have also given up 22 homeruns.
The Eagles have given up 11.
Look for junior Jenna Ignowki, freshman Lindsay Rich and sophomore Lauren Wells to handle the pitching duties for the Eagles during the weekend. Despite her 2-9 record, Wells has recorded a 2.93 ERA and has pitched well of late.
