Construction of Eastern Michigan University’s 9/11 memorial is under way at Pease Park, located between Pease Auditorium and Cross St., and a brief observance is scheduled to take place at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11, according to a release sent to the campus community.

The university expects the memorial to be completed by Sunday, Sept. 11 unless any unforeseen delays occur, EMU’S Executive Director of Media Relations Geoff Larcom said.

Faculty, staff and students served on committee that helped create the memorial design and decide its location.

EMU will hold an informational session on Tuesday, Sept. 6 in room 352 of the Student Center from 3-4 p.m. to discuss the memorial and its construction.
