Dining Commons

The Dining Commons endured some major sprucing up and renovation during its off semesters; spring and summer.

Director Larry Gates, speaking about all of the changes, said the ultimate goal was to create a more effecient and enjoyable dining experience for students and employees.

The furniture has been replaced, and there is new lighting and flooring. There are also more 2-3 person tables to increase space and allow for more tables and seating options.

Diners also can expect the entrance and exit doors to be different; the renovation called for a different approach to improve easy entry and exit by combining them into one location. The beverage stations were also merged into one station.

The huge island previously near the entrance also has been removed to increase the amount of space in that area.

All of the lines are the same, but the food will be served in a more cooked-to-order fashion opposed to normal daily servings.

“I’m anxious to see all the changes,” said Brianna Frye, a sophomore who frequented DC1 throughout her freshman year.

She thought the food preparation change of cook to order might become a hassle for the employees and cause a longer wait time. She was also disappointed about the stir fry not being cooked to order.

Alyssa Felciano, an EMU student, said all of the changes should be a plus but isn’t so sure about the entrance and exit combination.

“The ultimate goal is to spruce up the Dining Commons,” Gates said.
