As the investigation into the death of Julia Niswender continues, Eastern Michigan University has put new precautions in place to ensure the safety of students.
Tidwell announced as new EMU College of Business Dean
It has been announced that Michael Tidwell, dean of the College of Business at Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania, has been named the new dean of the College of Business at Eastern Michigan University. The current dean, David Mielke, will be stepping down in July after eight years in the position.
Ypsilanti City Council offers city manager position to Lange
Ypsilanti City Council took a major step toward filling the city manager position Tuesday night by voting unanimously to offer the job to Ralph A. Lange, who since 2008 has been the executive director of the Henry County Community Improvement Corporation, with headquarters in Napoleon, OH.
EMU suspends use of GradesFirst after inaccurate dismissal emails
Eastern Michigan University has suspended its relationship with GradesFirst, the company responsible for the mistaken dismissal emails sent to some students earlier this month. The university will also be reassessing their contract with the company as well as reviewing other third-party agreements to see which, if any, services will be retained.

Arson to bulletin board sets off alarms in Wise Hall
An arson set off the fire alarm at 6:08 p.m. on April 19 in Wise Hall. Police discovered that a fire had been started on a piece of paper on a bulletin board, which was quickly put out by several students as they were exiting the building.
Heighes named EMU chief of police
Eastern Michigan University announced Robert Heighes as its new executive director of public safety and chief of police via campus email at 4:43 p.m. April 19. His appointment will be effective on April 20, with a starting salary of $128,000.
