Shooting reported on LeForge

A shooting took place at approximately 1:30 a.m. today in the 1400 block of Leforge Rd, according to information received this morning by EMU’s department of public safety.

A witness reported to police that, after leaving a party with the victim, they were approached by a black male who asked for a cigarette. When they told the suspect they did not have a cigarette, the witness said the suspect produced a gun and fired it several times, striking the victim once in the shoulder.

Jobless rate

WASHINGTON — Recession fears are back with a bang and the economy is front and center in the political arena again after a Labor Department report Friday showed that the nation's unemployment rate leapt to 6.1 percent in August, employers shed jobs for the eighth consecutive month and revised numbers for earlier months showed even greater payroll hits.

Up for election: two competing visions of 'change'

McCain and Obama

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Now the country has a clearer picture of its choices.

The first back-to-back political conventions in half a century gave Americans a blur of late-summer political activity that nominated the two major-party presidential candidates, unveiled the vice presidential running mates, and laid out their visions for the future.

This all set the stage for a two-month sprint to Election Day that will give voters a choice between two competing stories of who can best change the country's unpopular course — and how they would change it.

The proposed sign, to be placed near the Huron Street exit facing I-94 by Adams Outdoor Advertising, would be both taller and wider than the current sign operated by the convention and visitors bureau.

Local businessmen and EMU graduate rev up Internet with new site

Selling various items online is said to be easy with the use of eBay, Craigslist or any other similar websites. However, these sites have such a varied assortment of merchandise that some products are not advertised as well as others, and it is easy for products to become buried.

A company from Ypsilanti, Citrus Stand Media Group, has recently developed a Web site that will make selling automobiles a much easier task over the Internet.
“FreeRevs.com was launched in June, but it has had explosive growth in the past few months,” said Jason Jaeger, president of the company.

McCain has young supporters too

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Although public opinion polls find Barack Obama leading John McCain by 2-1 among young voters, the 72-year-old Arizona Republican senator has youthful supporters who are looking to him for change.

"Not all of America's youth are liberal-minded; there are young conservatives, which makes it obvious that they would be supportive of McCain's policy platform," said Marsha Marotta, a political science professor at Westfield State College in Massachusetts.
