01049 -- EMU Echo Editor Endowed Scholarship:  Provides financial support for the current EMU Echo Editor.

02414 -- Scott Stephenson Eastern Echo Scholarship:  This expendable scholarship is for the benefit of student(s) in the School of Communication, Media & Theater Arts in the College of Arts & Sciences.  It will be awarded to a full or part-time junior or senior EMU student majoring in journalism and working for the Eastern Echo.  The student should be working to self-finance their education and not be eligible for need-based grants.

00825 -- Student Media Development:  Provides support for the Student Media program.

New documentary explores local food movement

Too often are there announcements of contaminated food in our meat and produce sections from large scale farming practices that have been the source of outbreaks of food-borne illness. That’s why it’s more important than ever to start thinking about and creating better and more local, sustainable and healthier food systems in America.

Just because you are off to college doesn’t mean you have to survive on microwave ramen noodles, mac n’ cheese and PB and J sandwiches. There are plenty of wonderful farmers’ markets, co-ops and gardens that provide locally sourced, organic produce and products that are healthy, budget friendly and are sure to please mom and dad while you are away from home.

With the growing concerns of large scale farming and widespread contamination of food sources, the development of smaller, urban, locally grown and sustainable organic gardens and farms have been cropping up all over the Ypsilanti area for a number of years.

Farmers' markets provide fresh produce

With spring well under way, bounties of locally grown fresh produce and goods can be found at the Downtown Ypsilanti and Depot Town Farmers’ markets every Tuesday and Saturday through October. The farmers’ markets not only bring fresh produce to our tables, but help support local growers, educate the public and help advocate for healthier lifestyles.
