Eastern Michigan University has geared up to hire on a new associate vice president of Student Affairs for the institution. Three candidates, Calvin Phillips, John Berry and Timothy Wise, have been given the opportunity to present their plans, objectives and goals for EMU if they are elected to the campus community.
On Monday at the Student Center, Eastern Michigan University welcomed depression and suicide prevention speaker Jeff Edwards to talk about warning signs of depression and how to seek help for those who need it or might know someone who is in peril.

During the month of March, Eastern Michigan University hosted several events to celebrate Women’s History Month. One of the last events EMU hosted, held at Pray-Harrold Monday afternoon, was one that offered a glimpse of African women who have won the honorable Nobel Peace Prize.

Eastern Michigan University’s EcoJustice and Activism week featured a session titled “Justice for All: Exploring the Psychological Intersections of Social and Ecological Activism,” which discussed race, gender, class and wilderness oppression. David St. John from the Michigan School of Professional Psychology was the featured speaker at this session.
The Center for the Study of Equality and Human Rights at Eastern Michigan University hosted a lecture in McKenny Hall Thursday titled, “Promoting Equal Rates for STI Testing for LGBT Individuals.” The lecture highlighted how people perceive advertisements of Sexually Transmitted Infections testing for the LGBT community, confidential testing and communication between partners.

Book Drive
A panel discussion on sexual violence titled, “Addressing Sexual Violence on College Campuses: A Panel and Workshop,” was held at McKenny Hall Thursday to address the elements of sexual violence and the dangerous situations victims find themselves in, like stalking, harassment and rape.
A panel of speakers involved in nonprofit organizations held an event Monday to discuss the journeys of being involved in such profound work.
