The Eastern Michigan Eagles women’s basketball team had an up-and-down 2019-20 campaign, which came to an abrupt end due to the coronavirus pandemic, just as they were starting to play to their full potential. The Eagles finished with a 16-15 (9-9) record, including a 9-6 record at home, and a number of outstanding individual and team performances. Looking back, here are Eastern Michigan’s top five moments from this past season.

Damari Parris entered the transfer portal on Thursday, March 19 as he has one year of eligibility remaining. Parris has already transferred once during his college career as he played for Western Kentucky during the 2016-17 season before coming to Eastern Michigan. Parris only played for the Eagles during the 2018-19 campaign.

The Eastern Michigan Eagles football program are looking to reach their third consecutive bowl game next year and their quest will begin on Saturday, Sept. 5 when the Eagles travel to Lexington to face the Kentucky Wildcats. The remainder of the schedule will consist of eight conference games and five home games at Rynearson Stadium.

The Eastern Michigan men’s basketball 2019-20 season came to a close on Monday, March 9 as the Eagles lost in the first round of the MAC Tournament to Kent State 86-76. Now, with all sports being cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, it’s time to look forward to next season and project what the EMU team will look like.

The Eastern Michigan Eagles (16-15, 9-9) women’s basketball team had their season end, as all others did, due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The Eagles were competing in the MAC Tournament in Cleveland the day before the tournament was cancelled on Thursday, March 12. EMU was set to play the following day.

The Eastern Michigan men’s track and field team had two meets between Feb. 22-29. The first was the Alex Wilson Invitational on Feb. 22, the second was the two-day MAC Indoor Championship beginning on Feb. 28. The men’s team had high finishes in both events, but all further events in the season have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hundreds of college athletic programs have stopped short due to COVID-19. EMU has canceled all events and team practices for the spring season. That includes women’s tennis, that finished with a 10-7 record. Conference matches were set to start on Sunday, March 22, however EMU followed suit with NCAA guidelines in not having those matches be played.

The Eastern Michigan Eagles (3-7) women’s gymnastics team concluded its 2020 season on March 7, against Michigan State University in East Lansing. The team was scheduled to play 13 meets this season but could only compete in 11 due to the cancellation related to COVID-19.

The Eastern Michigan Eagles (1-13) men’s baseball team had their season come to an end due to the coronavirus outbreak. The NCAA has cancelled the remainder of winter and spring sports but they announced that all seniors competing in spring sports will have the option to return next season for another year of eligibility.

Over the course of the past few days, the world around us has seemed to come to a halt. Almost every major sports league has put an indefinite pause to their seasons, such as the NBA, PGA, and MLB. Even March Madness has been cancelled. While I think these cancellations are just, I don’t think the NBA and NCAA should just throw this season away entirely.

The Eastern Michigan women’s tennis team claimed another win in the clash against the Cleveland State Vikings, with this only being their second matchup against each other in school history. EMU was able to take yet another victory, remaining undefeated against them with a 2-0 record. The Eagles currently reside at a solid 10-7 record as a result, while Cleveland State falls to 8-5.

The NBA announced that they were going to suspend the regular season indefinitely on Wednesday, March 11, after Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19). According to World-o-Meter, the United States has 1,412 cases of the virus, which has resulted in 40 deaths. There are 133,084 cases worldwide. The NBA’s decision sent a domino effect through the sports world, including the 2020 MAC Tournament in Cleveland.

Eastern Michigan kicked off the first of their doubleheader battle Saturday afternoon against the Cincinnati Bearcats, after being postponed from Friday due to brewing storms in the area. The Cats were roaring and scoring in this barn burner, resulting in an 8-1 loss for the guys in green.

The Eastern Michigan Eagles (14-15, 9-9) women's basketball team lost their last regular season game versus the Central Michigan Chippewas on Saturday, March 7 at McGuirk Arena in Mount Pleasant. Courtnie Lewis led EMU with 22 points, while Areanna Combs totaled 21 points and four rebounds in the loss.

The Eastern Michigan Eagles (1-12) baseball team fell in the second game in their double header against the University of Cincinnati on March 7. The Eagles came into today with a 1-10, while the Bearcats came into this game 5-7, winning five of their past six games.

The Eastern Michigan Eagles (3-7, 1-4) gymnastics team lost their most recent match versus Michigan State on Saturday, March 7 in East Lansing. The Spartans came away with a 195.625-194.200 victory, while the Eagles were led by Jada Rondeau, Emili Dobronics, Kara Roberts and Caitlin Satler.
