Eastern Michigan University’s women’s basketball assistant coach Cassandra Callaway has been promoted to recruiting coordinator, per EMU Athletics. Callaway will be going into her fourth season as an assistant coach alongside Fred Castro.

The 2019-20 college basketball season will begin on Nov. 5, 2019, and Eastern Michigan’s season will start soon after. The Eagles, who were picked to win the MAC West division prior to last year, are going to deal with a different level of expectations this time around.

John Bowler played four years for the Eastern Michigan men’s basketball team from 2003-2006. After playing professionally in Germany for multiple years, he was promoted to head coach at Des Moines Area Community College on July 1, 2018. Bowler’s goal is to continue the recent success on and off the court at DMACC.

Former Eastern Michigan guard, Tim Bond was added to the New York Knicks summer league roster last month, per Eastern Michigan Athletics. Bond played for the Eagles from 2014-2018 and was named the 2018 MAC Defensive Player of the Year in his senior campaign.

Jamell Harris joined the Eastern Michigan basketball program as a freshman and knew if he worked hard enough, he’d earn minutes and work himself into the rotation. Four years later, he became one of the best shot blockers and rebounders in school history and helped bring the program their first ever MAC West division title.

James Thompson IV earned the opportunity to work out with the New York Knicks and the Washington Wizards this month after closing out his senior year with Eastern Michigan University this past March. As a former student athlete for the Eagles, Thompson left his mark on the basketball program, ending his career as the all-time leading rebounder in Eastern Michigan history.

More than 20 years after his time at Eastern Michigan University, the name Earl Boykins still means a lot to the Eagles’ athletics program. He helped put the basketball team on the national scene with two NCAA Tournament appearances in four years. In the 21 seasons since Boykins graduated from EMU, he’s had a successful NBA career with multiple teams and started his own AAU program named Boykins Basketball Academy.

The Eastern Michigan athletics program has seen some ups and downs in the last year, which includes a MAC Tournament title by the women’s volleyball team, an appearance in the Camellia Bowl for the football team, and a court ruling that forced EMU to reinstate the softball and women’s tennis teams.

Every year ESPN airs hundreds of live broadcasts of professional and collegiate athletics ranging from NFL football to division II rowing. ESPN can reach millions of viewers each year through its multiple cable channels and online streaming service.

The first full day of the 2019 NCAA Tournament began on Thursday, March 21, as Minnesota and Louisville faced off in Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa. There would be 32 games played in the next two days at various locations.

The Buffalo Men’s Basketball team has won its fourth Mid-American Conference Tournament championship in the last five years as Buffalo defeated Bowling Green in the title game 87-73 at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio March 16. Buffalo coach Nate Oats will be headed to the Bulls’ second straight NCAA Tournament after the win.

The Buffalo Women’s Basketball team has won the Mid-American Conference Tournament championship, taking down Ohio in the championship game Saturday, March 16 at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. The Bulls will advance to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in school history, after reaching the Sweet Sixteen last season.

Eastern Michigan senior forward Danielle Minott earned honorable mention All-MAC honors, alongside Oshlynn Brown (Ball State), Kendall McCoy (Miami OH), Mikaela Boyd (Toledo) and Deja Wimby (Western Michigan). Minott averaged 13.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per game in her senior season.

Going into its eighth season under head coach, Rob Murphy, the Eastern Michigan Men’s Basketball team had high optimism for the 2018-19 season. However, the Eagles finished the season with a 15-17 overall record. The team finished third in the MAC West with a 9-9 conference record.

The Eastern Michigan Women’s Basketball team had its season come to an end with an 88-80 loss to rival Central Michigan in the Mid-American Conference Tournament quarter finals. Jenna Annecchiarico had 21 points in the last game of her freshman year.

Danielle Minott scored the winning layup for Eastern Michigan with 2.6 seconds left in the fourth quarter, leading to a 61-59 victory over Akron at James A. Rhodes Arena on Monday, March 11. The Eagles move on to the quarterfinals round of the MAC Tournament to play Central Michigan in Cleveland on March 13 at noon.
