The EMU Jazz Ensemble played for an audience on Tuesday, Feb. 12 in Pease Auditorium. The ensemble featured compositions and arrangements written by female jazz composers.
The EMU University Advising & Career Development Center hosted an internship fair on Wednesday, Feb. 12, in the Student Center Ballroom to give students an opportunity to browse and engage with organizations hiring for internship positions in an array of fields. In total, 53 organizations were present at the internship fair.
‘North Star,’ held in EMU’s Sponberg Theater, follows the self-discovering journey and reflection of Relia living in a small town in North Carolina in 1960. The play was performed Feb. 7 to 9 and will be held again Feb. 13 to 16.
This year’s Black History Month celebration is themed around voting, this year being the 100th anniversary of the nineteenth amendment, which gave women the right to vote, and the 150th anniversary of the fifteenth amendment, which gave black men the right to vote.
Monday, Feb. 3
On Feb. 6 EMU's Honors College held a lecture titled "Our World, Our Story: A Conversation with Jay’Len Boone." Boone is the eighth United States Youth Observer to the United Nations. This event was open to all EMU students and the general public and toward the end of the event, the audience could participate in open discussion panel with Boone and take photographs with him.
Results from the Washtenaw County specimen as mentioned in a previous article from the Echo was confirmed negative for the 2019 Novel Coronavirus as of Jan 31.
EMU Symphony Orchestra, consisting of 48 musicians under the direction of conductor Dr. Chad Hutchinson, performed in Pease Auditorium on Friday, Feb. 8.
The City of Ypsilanti has yet to issue permits for recreational marijuana to be sold in the city’s several marijuana dispensaries, but that will be changing soon, with the city now accepting applications to receive a permit.

A car accident occurred on Monday, Feb. 3 just off the campus of Eastern Michigan University. The accident was in view of the the Mark Jefferson Science Complex and McKenny Hall. This is within the jurisdiction of Ypsilanti City police and first responders.
In the Jan. 10 edition of Ypsilanti’s bi-weekly newsletter to the public, a variety of updates to the city were noted, including that “Ypsi will still be tight on public safety staffing, despite us likely adding staff for the third consecutive budget year. That should tell you how much our city had to cut staff in the key departments of Police and Fire over the last 15 years or so. Monday, Jan. 27
From Jan. 10 until Jan. 31 the Riverside Arts Center held their most recent exhibit, entitled “Insecurity."
The results of three specimens’, two from Washtenaw and one from Macomb counties, came back negative for the 2019 Novel Coronavirus. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) and the Washtenaw County Health Departments are still waiting on the results of another specimen from Washtenaw County.
On Thursday Jan. 31, 2020 an Eastern Michigan University Department of Public Safety training occurred at Buell Residence Hall around 11:30 a.m.
