Over $128 million has been raised by politicians and organizations in Michigan, just during the 2018 election cycle. Nationwide, almost $2.5 billion has been raised. The purpose of this money is to buy influence; candidates want to buy TV ads, billboards, and any other form of advertisement to get their name out to the public.

One great thing about summer is all the blockbusters hitting the movie theaters. I’ve taken in quite a few so far but the most impressionable was “Tag,” a comedy based on a real-life story.

Hailing from Iceland, Björk started as an oddity in the realm of pop-stars in the 1990’s, and has only pushed her quirks further and further with each release since her debut album, appropriately titled Debut, in 1993. Since then her innovations in music and reinventions of herself have proven to be much more than can be expected of your average pop-star. While many people know her simply as a strange woman from a strange land, those who look past first impressions will find an artist whose music is just as unique as her personality.

Have you ever felt a connection to someone, maybe a family member that’s passed, that you’ve never met? Some believe these people are part of the same soul group. Without getting too metaphysical, it’s a philosophy that people are connected in life and even after because their souls belong in the same inner circle. Think of the “cut from the same cloth” mentality. This was an unexpected underlying theme of Disney Pixar’s movie, Coco.

On Monday, Oct. 23, I asked Abdul El-Sayed, who is running for governor, “If you are elected to office, seeing how gerrymandering is working in our state and the super majorities Republicans hold in both congressional houses, how do you plan on compromising to fulfill your agenda?”

The dream collaboration album that all trap-rap fans have waited for has arrived to us, and it came out on the perfect day, Halloween. This was a great timing with the horrific vibe and content that the three young talents have put out on “Without Warning.”

The Disney Company has continued its goal of inclusion of the LBGTQ+ community with the Disney Channel series “Andi Mack” which airs on Fridays at 8 pm. The series is the first Disney show or movie to include an LBGTQ+ storyline. Over this season “Andi Mack” will focus on main character Cyrus Goodman (Joshua Rush) coming out. According to ABC News the subsequent episodes of the season will deal with Cyrus’s “journey to self-acceptance as a gay person.”

On paper and in theory, “Suburbicon” seemed destined to be an original, suspenseful Hollywood thriller that audiences would embrace. On-camera talent like Matt Damon and Julianne Moore, combined with the behind-the-scenes aptitudes of director George Clooney and writers Joel and Ethan Coen, would typically brand a film with this kind of pedigree as an Oscar darling. It should’ve been. It would’ve been.

At this point in time, Weezer has been around, and mostly active, for quite a while. Releasing its first album in 1994, which went triple platinum, it has never been very far from the starlight. While it often bobs up and down the surface of popularity, Weezer has never settled on just what kind of music it wants to make. Its music has ranged from being oddly experimental to being acutely radio friendly. On its latest album, “Pacific Daydream,” we see another shift in the band’s style back to being acutely radio friendly, for better or for worse.

The ever-voracious appetite for nostalgia that has engulfed American media over the last decade has led to the resurrection and remaking of several television programs and calls for reunions of now-defunct musical groups. “The Nostalgia Factor” has so far seen varying results in the world of American cinema, with classic films such as “Wall Street” and the “Indiana Jones” franchise releasing sequels decades after their predecessors. These films were met with a lukewarm reception from viewers and critics alike. Looking to break this mold, “Blade Runner 2049” seeks to please viewers 35 years after the release of Ridley Scott’s original “Blade Runner” in 1982.
