EMU hockey falls 4-1 to Kent State at home

The Eastern Michigan University club hockey team took on fellow Eastern Collegiate Hockey Association team in the Kent State Golden Flashes, losing 4-1 at home despite leading in the first period.The Eagles held the advantage going into the break, but the Golden Flashes used its veteran presence and poise to take advantage of the young Eastern Michigan roster and take the win back to Kent State.




Late goal leads Eastern Michigan to 3-2 victory over Akron

Junior Ellie Tillar scored a beautiful headed goal late in the game to send the Eastern Michigan University women’s soccer team past the University of Akron by a score of 3-2 on Sunday afternoon in Ypsilanti.Using its ninth different starting lineup in 12 games, Eastern Michigan (4-7-1; 1-3-0 MAC) scored three goals, two of which being put in the goal off of set pieces to try and catch momentum and beat the Akron.





Mona Eltahawy speaks on feminism and race

Renown author, activist and journalist, Mona Eltahawy, spoke on her book, Headscarves and Hymens, right wing and Middle Eastern misogyny and how she draws inspiration from the Black Lives Matter movement and Say Her Name on Monday in McKenny Hall.The Women’s Resource Center brought in the Egyptian feminist to give a lecture and lead a discussion.The question and answer portion gave opposing side the opportunity to have a back and forth with the fiery and controversial figure and brought different views to light.Eltahawy said what she wants to crush is the patriarchy and their pillars -- what she called the trifecta of misogyny, the state, the street, and the home.






Six students sworn in as senators

Six students were sworn in as senators at the regular Senate Meeting on Tuesday in the Student Center.Tanasia Morton, Robert Niemi, Joe Pernicano, Richard Banfield, Annaliese Corace Langbeen and Marshall Conley all went from provisional senator positions to full-fledged senators.“Eastern Michigan University is a very underestimated school and the best way to change that reputation is straight from Student Government,” Conley said.




Lessons learned in kindergarten still apply in college

I think EMU orientation should include mandatory review of the basic lessons or life rules we all learned in kindergarten (if we attended kindergarten in this country). Since there are plenty of international students that did not live here when they were five years old and, since some of us haven’t been in kindergarten in more years than we care to count, review of these rules should be mandatory for ALL students (ESPECIALLY COMMUTER STUDENTS) upon entry to EMU.
