One of the most important midterm elections of our lifetime is only one week away. The results will determine whether President Trump’s agenda can continue to be implemented, or if it will come to a grinding halt. If Democrats take back control of either chamber of Congress the latter will be the case. It is likely the Democrats will use this power to begin investigations of the Trump administration, with the President’s tax returns at the top of the list.

Eastern Michigan’s Women's soccer team split the first two of their three home games to end the season. The team defeated Miami of Ohio in decisive fashion by a final score of 3-0. Unfortunately, it seemed that they maxed out their scoring output for the weekend as they failed to score against Ball State and lost 1-0. The loss to Ball State cuts even deeper as it was the team’s senior night. For seniors like Peyton Davis, Mikayla Cupp, Mia Colavito, and Mackenzie Etienne, this normally would have been their final opportunity to take the pitch at Scicluna Field. However the final game of the season will also be at home, giving the team one more chance to send the seniors out on a high note.

Eastern Michigan football suffers their second straight overtime defeat, this time to Northern Illinois University, dropping them to 0-2 in MAC play. The offense struggled as a whole, going a whole quarter without a first down and delivering an abysmal performance on third down throughout the game. After forcing a turnover in the second overtime period, Chad Ryland missed a game winning field goal that inevitably cost the Eagles the victory.

The Eastern Michigan football team lost a tight battle to San Diego State University in overtime by a final score of 23-20. Both Tyler Wiegers and Mike Glass III continued to split the reps at quarterback but the two-headed monster was not enough to slay the Aztecs.
Eastern Michigan’s women’s soccer team continued their winning ways with a victory over Illinois-Chicago on September 9th, by a final score of 2-1. The win marks the teams 4th on the season and their third win straight. The two teams battled back and forth throughout the first half of the match. It wasn’t until the 35th minute that EMU would break the 0-0 tie with a goal of their own. Kirstin Nason of the Eagles scored on a takeaway in the Illinois-Chicago box that she rocketed into the left side of the net for her second goal on the season.

Despite Wiegers performance, the hero of the game was kicker Chad Ryland who drilled two field goals, including a game winner as time expired to secure the victory for EMU.
