Elected student officials met Tuesday, Sept. 3 to discuss procedural matters such as their budget, junior officer procedures and due process for suspended student organizations. Student Body President Ethan Smith called it a “strong meeting with a clear path forward.”

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) sent a request for proposal (RFP) to design an updated foster parent training curriculum to replace the current educational program required of anyone who is interested in becoming a foster or adoptive parent. MDHHS has granted Eastern Michigan University with $689,200 to revise this program with more current research-based content.

Fresh off a 30-23 victory over the Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina, the Eastern Michigan Eagles remain on the road for a battle with the Kentucky Wildcats out of the SEC on Saturday, Sept. 7. The University of Kentucky spent a majority of the 2018 college football season in the top 25 of the AP Poll. The Wildcats defeated MAC rival Toledo in its previous game by a score of 38-24. Kentucky quarterback Terry Wilson, took the reigns of the offense and completed 19 of 26 passes for 246 yards and two touchdowns.
Myles McNeal, who is a 3-star recruit according to 247 Sports, committed to play for the Eastern Michigan football program on April 16, 2019. He is scheduled to graduate from Grand Blanc Community High School in 2020 and will join the Eagles team following that. McNeal is a 5’11”, 180-pound cornerback for the Grand Blanc Bobcats, and is rated the 50th best player in the state of Michigan.
For the first time in school history, the Eastern Michigan Eagles took on the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers at Brooks Stadium in Conway, South Carolina on Saturday, Aug. 31. Despite a slow start by the Eagles, they escaped with a 30-23 victory to begin their season with a 1-0 record.

1. Nate Thurmond (Bowling Green Falcons): Thurmond was dominant for the Falcons in his three seasons as he averaged 17.8 points, to go along with an incredible 16.6 rebounds per game for his career. He was named to the All-MAC First Team three times and was an All-American in 1963. Thurmond went on to earn seven NBA All-Star appearances for the Golden State Warriors.
Eastern Michigan University’s women’s basketball assistant coach Cassandra Callaway has been promoted to recruiting coordinator, per EMU Athletics. Callaway will be going into her fourth season as an assistant coach alongside Fred Castro.
Since first stepping foot firmly on campus in August 2015, I have had the opportunity to view this institution through a lens that few are given the chance. I’ve watched administrators, staff, faculty and students struggle to grasp what higher education, especially at the undergraduate level, looks like within the second decade of the 21st century. It is certain that the experiences I have had over the last several years are unique to a handful of alumni, and I find it difficult to explain much of how Eastern Michigan University works to those on the outside, let alone those who work on the inside.
One hundred forty-two Eastern Michigan University employees are set to retire from the university within the next year.
