The Tony nominations make for the year of “Hamilton”

The Tony Awards air June 12th. The nominations are dominated by one single show: Hamilton. There are thirteen categories for the nominations, and in trail-blazing fashion Lin-Manuel’s hip-hop-infused masterpiece is nominated for a record breaking 16 awards.

Ann Arbor community raises money for skate park

The Youth Action Committee hosted its 4th Annual Bake Sale on Saturday, May 14 at the Ann Arbor Skate Park. Proceeds of this bake sale go towards costs of hosting visiting professional skateboarders. In the future, a skate clinic for children will be held.

Journalism student becomes published author

Drew Saunders, journalism major at Eastern Michigan University, has written and published his very own novel, Hasan. Hasan is a fictional story of a 15-year-old boy braving the difficulties of the Middle East’s Civil War by himself and whilst caring for his younger siblings.

Marketing students travel to Cleveland for NBA game and VIP experience

On Sunday April 3, 45 students of Eastern Michigan University’s College of Business took a field trip to Cleveland, Ohio to see the NBA Cleveland Cavaliers game against the Charlotte Hornets. Not only were students able to enjoy the game, but they were also given an exclusive tour of Quicken Loans Area, home to the Cleveland Cavaliers, as well as the AHL Lake Erie Monsters and the AFL Cleveland Gladiators.

EMU Theater presents One Man, Two Govnors

Eastern Michigan University’s Theatre Department will be performing Richard Bean’s slapstick comedy, One Man, Two Govnors this weekend in the Quirk Theatre. Nominated for seven Tony Awards, One Man, Two Govnors is the updated modern version of the 18th century Italian play, A Servant of Two Masters, written by Carlo Goldoni. Bean’s version opened at the National Theatre in London in 2011 where it became a hit success.

Movie Review: Batman v Superman

Three years ago, a rumor started swirling around the fan boys and girls and social media spaces that at some point in the near future two of the worlds most iconic comic book characters would be coming to the big screen in a battle that had never been seen before. Three years of shocks, awes, casting, backlash, pre-production, re-writes, re-shoots and release dates later, Zack Snyder and Warner Brothers follow up to Man of Steel (2013) with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016). Yes, for the first time ever Batman and Superman go head to head in a climactic battle that is supposed to shake up super hero movies and fans and haters forever.

SisterHOOD hosts Black Women Leadership Symposium

Eastern Michigan University’s retention and degree program, SisterHOOD (Helping Others Obtain Degrees) hosted a panel of four influential women of color who talked leadership strategies and solidarity to a room of about 30 women of color, Thursday night in McKenny Hall. The event, Black Women Leadership Symposium, was created by SisterHOOD for students to engage in dialogue with other women about their leadership philosophy and acknowledge they can be a leader without a title. “We created this symposium after trying to find a similar conference in the area, and in Michigan,” said higher education and student affairs graduate and intern for SisterHood, Tonal Simmons.
