If you grew up in the 1990s, chances are you’ve heard Darius Rucker’s deep voice come across the radio a time or two.
The platinum recording artist will play the Convocation Center on Jan. 31. Tickets are on sale now.
“As an entertainer, there’s nothing like seeing the fans react to your music,” Rucker said in a press release. “I’ve been blessed to have country radio take six of our songs to No. 1, so we thought it was the perfect time to take the True Believers Tour on the road.”
In 1994, Rucker’s band Hootie and the Blowfish left South Carolina and invaded every frat house in the country when they released their debut album “Cracked Rear View,” which would eventually sell more than 16 million copies in the U.S. alone. After numerous albums with the band, Rucker switched genres from pop music to country and is one of the few artists to successfully do so.
Rucker’s cover of Old Crow Medicine Show’s “Wagon Wheel” has become a hit on the country music charts, and he’s received multiple nominations for different country music awards.
The True Believers Tour is named after Rucker’s newest album and kicks off in Champaign, Ill. on Jan. 29. The six-week tour will visit 15 towns, and Ypsilanti is third on the list of stops.
The Eli Young Band and David Nail are scheduled opening acts for the show.
The Eli Young Band’s song “Even If It Breaks Your Heart” was Grammy nominated in 2012 for Best
Country Song. They have had two country radio No. 1 hits, including their double-platinum hit
“Crazy Girl.”
David Nail is a Grammy nominated singer-songwriter who has toured alongside a list of country stars including Taylor Swift and Billy Currington.
“It’s going to be an awesome show with some great entertainers as both Eli Young Band and David Nail deliver live,” Rucker said.
