Ypsilanti has a reputation among college students as being a small town filled with nothing but crimes and raggedy apartments. Apparently they have not ventured to Depot Town.
Depot Town is a part of Ypsilanti’s historic district that spans from East Cross Street to a small area on the 300-Block of North River Street. Within that area there are restaurants, a trendy store along with a few vintage stores, a nice park with beautiful scenery, a farmers’ market and a tattoo parlor.
A person could never go hungry with Sidetrack Bar & Grill, Aubree’s Pizzeria & Grill, Sticks, Harvest Kitchen and many more. These restaurants serve delicious barbeque, deep-dish pizza with flavorful crusts and sweet potato soup that is to die for.
The shopping selection is small but there are hidden jewels in every store. Materials Unlimited is a store full of jewels and antiques. This store is best known for selling antiques and has three floors of everything from silly little trinkets to items that could be worth a lot of money. If antiques aren’t your thing then check out Mix. Unlike Materials Unlimited, Mix is all about fashion. This store sells new and gently used clothes that can appeal to any style.
If you’re not in the mood for food and fashion consider taking in the scenery at Riverside Park. Riverside Park has a mahogany colored wooden bridge with clear water that flows underneath that connects to Frog Island Park. Within this park are beautiful sights of trees, blossoming flowers and friendly people and the occasional homeless guy with funny jokes.
If you’re a person like me who enjoys cooking with fresh vegetables or you’re trying to go green – literally – then take a trip to the Depot Town Farmers’ Market where there are seemingly unlimited amounts of fresh vegetables, plants, homemade goods and other items that are healthy and hearty.
Along with having places to satisfy hunger and splurge on the latest trends, Depot Town hosts events throughout the year that are worth a visit.
Before giving up on Depot Town checkout the events that happen during the spring and summer. The major events are the Michigan Brewers Guild, the Michigan Elvis Fest, and the Ypsilanti Heritage Festival, Tuesday Bike Night and Cruise Nights on Thursdays.
Depot Town is a part of Ypsilanti that has so much to offer the community. Visit Depot Town immediately to experience fun, food and friendly stranger today.
