Week 4 MAC round-up

Mid-American Conference round-up, week 4

University of Kansas 24, Central Michigan University 10

CMU entered the fourth quarter tied at 10 with Big 12 opponent Kansas, only for the Jayhawks to score 14 unanswered points in the final frame to down the Chippewas. CMU is now 2-2 on the year, while Kansas goes to 2-1. This is CMU’s second straight loss and will face its first conference opponent Toledo next Saturday.

Western Michigan University 45, Murray State University 14

WMU scored 45 points in the second consecutive week to earn its second consecutive victory. The Broncos outscored Murray State 38-7 over the final three quarters leading to the blowout. WMU is now 2-1 on the season while Murray State is now 1-2.

University of Wisconsin 68, Bowling Green State University 17

After defeating Big 10 opponent Indiana last week, Bowling Green couldn’t make it two straight wins against the Big 10, losing 68-17 to Wisconsin. Wisconsin ran wild in the game, gaining 644 yards rushing in the rout. Bowling Green falls to 2-2 on the season while Wisconsin improves to 2-1.

University of Arkansas 52, Northern Illinois University 14

Northern Illinois became another top MAC team to be blown out on the road Saturday, this time losing to an SEC school in Arkansas. The Razorbacks scored on offense, defense and special teams in the first quarter to give Arkansas the 21-0 advantage that NIU would never be able to overcome. This is the Huskies’ first defeat on the season, as NIU is 3-1 overall while Arkansas is also 3-1 on the season.

University of Toledo 34, Ball State University 23

Weather caused a long delay in the lone MAC conference matchup of the week, as the game finished well after midnight Sunday morning. Toledo rushed for 318 yards and opened up with an early 20-3 first quarter lead that proved insurmountable lead for Ball State. Toledo is 2-2 on the season while Ball State drops to 1-3.

Conference play begins to get into the full swing of things next week as Central Michigan and Toledo kick off their MAC seasons. The lone game of real interest in the MAC, and both teams have high hopes in the MAC Western division. The game will played next Saturday in Toledo at 7 pm
