August 20
Patrolling officers were flagged down by a man near Michigan Avenue and Hamilton Street at 3:54 a.m. The man mistook the officers’ squad car for a taxi-cab and after making contact with the individual the officers discovered the man had existing warrants for his arrest and narcotic paraphernalia on his person. He was arrested and cited for possession of narcotic paraphernalia.
August 21
An Eastern Michigan alumnus living in New York notified police that her iPod, which was stolen between Nov. 1, 2013 and Aug. 21, 2014 was being used illegally. Anti-theft software on the iPod informed the alumnus someone was trying to charge items to her Apple account. Police have made contact with a suspect and are investigating the matter further.
Officers were called to University Park by housing staff at 6:06 p.m. A known trespasser was seen on the property and the responding officers issued the man a verbal warning and escorted him from campus.
A female student reported her cell phone stolen from the Student Center at 7:14 p.m. The student left her phone momentarily by the televisions in the lower level of the Student Center. When she returned she found the phone missing. There are currently no suspects.
August 22
A male student reported his commuter hangtag stolen from the Student Center at 3:22 p.m. The student believes the hangtag was stolen from the counter of the men’s room while he was using the facility. There are no suspects at this time.
Student Center staff reported one of their walkie-talkie radios stolen at 4:20 p.m. Staff became aware of the missing radio when a suspect broke in on conversations by issuing obscenities over the channel. The case is open at this time.
Police performing a traffic stop near LeForge Road and Green Road at 5:28 p.m. discovered a small amount of a substance believed to be marijuana in the driver’s possession. The driver was cited for possession of narcotic equipment and released.
August 25
Police were called to the Cross Street Parking Lot at 12:39 a.m. when two suspects were observed trying to break a parking gate’s automated arm. Officers found the suspects in their vehicle at the Cross Street Parking Lot. The driver of the vehicle was cited for operating while under the influence and malicious destruction of property. The passenger, an EMU student, was cited for minor-in-possession, malicious destruction of property and reported to the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards.
Officers were called to Cornell Court Apartments at 9:11 p.m. for a disturbing the peace violation. A former couple, both EMU students, was having a loud verbal dispute when the female suspect retuned to the male suspect’s residence to retrieve some of her belongings. The suspects were issued a verbal warning and the officers oversaw the female suspect reclaim her possessions and escorted her out of the complex.
August 27
Police performing a traffic stop near Ballard Street and Pearl Street at 1:52 a.m. discovered what is believed to be marijuana in the driver’s possession. The driver, an EMU student, was cited for possession of narcotic paraphernalia and Zreported to the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards.
