EMU's Betty Adams competes in College Student Food Stars competition

Congratulations to The Eastern Echo’s own Betty Adams, who was one of the final eight amateur chefs to compete in the first annual College Student Food Stars cook off Sunday.

The College Student Food Stars was held at the Holiday Inn in Ann Arbor and contestants were asked to prepare dishes by:

  • Using only one appliance
  • Having only three ingredients in the dish
  • Working within a budget of $10 or less
  • Preparing the dish in 10 minutes or less

The overall 2014 champion was Daniela Friedman who won with “A college twist on a classic sundae.” Claire Hillman won the “Best Late Night Snack” category with her Peanut Butter Stuffed Teriyaki Burgers, and Sarah Adcok won the “Best Dorm Support” category with her Rocky Mountain Dew Cake.

“The Rocky Mountain Cake was a cake mix made with only Mountain Dew,” Adams said. “The winner Daniela Friedman used a Pinterest recipe of frozen bananas and peanut butter to make a twist on the ice cream sundae, topped with M&Ms or cereal.”

The grand prize for the event was a two-night stay in Chicago at Hotel Cass including round-trip train fair, dinner at Paris Club and lunch at M Burger. Category winners received an overnight hotel package at the Holiday Inn in Ann Arbor with a culinary tour Savor Ann Arbor.

“It was a great experience,” Adams said. “I highly recommend students from EMU to continue to participate in next year’s competition.”
