An arson set off the fire alarm at 6:08 p.m. on April 19 in Wise Hall. Police discovered that a fire had been started on a piece of paper on a bulletin board, which was quickly put out by several students as they were exiting the building.

The Eastern Michigan University Police Department issued a timely warning at 8:46 p.m. informing campus of the incident.

“Although this incident only resulted in minor damage, and it may appear insignificant, it is an incident of arson and is taken very seriously because of the potential danger to the residents and the community,” the warning said. “Arson charges carry a fine and a prison sentence of up to 20 years.”
