Police Blotter Aug. 15
Thursday, Aug. 4 A car was pulled over at the corner of Rice and Forest for a traffic violation at 1:17 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 4. According to the EMU Police Blotter, the “passenger [was] cited for open [alcohol] container in a motor vehicle.” The officer from the Department of Public Safety also “advised” the passenger on a warrant.
EMU community speaks out about the Flint water crisis Part 2.
During the winter semester, I wrote an article including a series of interviews with members of the Eastern Michigan University that were affected by the Flint water crisis. This summer I followed up on the four interviewees that were included in the article to see if anything has changed about their situation.

Thursday, July 14 Eastern Michigan University’s Department of Public Safety assisted the Ypsilanti Police Department in the arrest of an armed man on the corner of Washtenaw Avenue and Ballard Street.
Ypsilanti town hall discusses police brutality during July 21 meeting
In response to the number of unarmed African American men being shot down by police across the country recently and the subsequent ambushes occurring to police officers as well, the EMU Ballroom filled with people from across the Ypsilanti community to talk about policing throughout the community.
Ypsilanti City Manager to resign
Ypsilanti’s City Manager has announced his retirement. The city council accepted the resignation of City Manager Ralph Lange during a 7:00 a.m.
EMU employees to lose jobs over budget cuts
Ten EMU employees lost their jobs Monday evening due to budget cuts. Although the number of job losses are known, the actual positions and people have not yet been identified. As interim President Donald Loppnow explained in an email to faculty and staff members, EMU employees who could potentially be cut, will be assessed over a 30-day “bumping” period while Welch Hall negotiates with union members.
Students to see 4.1 percent tuition increase this fall
Students at Eastern Michigan University will be paying an additional 4.1 percent in tuition this fall semester.

Friday, June 17 A 25 year old Ferndale man was pulled over by the Department of Public Safety for going the wrong way down Jarvis Street at 3:17 a.m.
Mixed feelings about EMU privatizing dining services with Chartwells
The Board of Regents authorized interim-president Donald Loppnow to sign a 10-year contract allowing EMU’s dining services to be privatized on June 21.
