EMU’s Findley named state coordinator for Michigan-American Council on Education Women’s Network— Assistant Vice President for Academic Success Partnerships at Eastern Michigan University, Lynette Findley, has been named state coordinator for the Michigan-American Council on Education Women’s Network and will serve two years. Findley earned a doctorate in higher education administration from Michigan State University, a master’s degree in guidance and counseling and a bachelor’s degree in special education from the University of Michigan. Victorian house doubles as classroom for Eastern Michigan’s grad students— Graduate students in EMU’s historic preservation program are getting experience in a Victorian-era home located in the town of Concord.
EMU committee discusses major topics
Eastern Michigan University’s Educational Committee held a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the phasing out of two programs at EMU and to consider the authorization of three charter schools. Associate provost and associate vice president for academic programming and services, Rhonda Longworth presented to the Educational Committee the phasing out of the master of sociology-family specialty program and the phasing out of the minor in Spanish literature. Longworth said the reason for the phasing out of the master of sociology-family specialty program is that it is not sustainable.
Regents approve capital budget
Eastern Michigan University Regents approve capital plan— The EMU Board of Regents approved a capital plan of $9.2 million dollars for the fiscal year 2013-2014. The plan has been approved for upgrades across the EMU campus which includes academic facilities and technology, investments in the new Physician Assistant Program and an increase in enrollment for the College of Health and Human Services. During 2008-2009, and 2012-2013, capital spending reached $220 million, with 10 percent in dining and housing renovations, athletic amenities, campus infrastructure, and safety and security at EMU.
