Area speed limits to change
The Michigan Department of Transportation plans to change the speed limits on state trunk lines in the city of Ypsilanti, Ypsilanti Township and Pittsfield Township.
EMU professor runs for City Council position
Eastern Michigan University Professor Susan Moeller confirmed, to The Eastern Echo June 11, she has decided to run for the seat on Ypsilanti City Council currently held by Michael Bodary in the Second Ward.
Five-year transit program approved
Ypsilanti City Council member Peter Murdock described the four-party agreement for a county-wide transit plan as “the only way Ypsilanti will have public transportation in the future.” City Council approved the four-party agreement, among Ypsilanti, Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County and the Ann Arbor Transportation Authority at its June 5 meeting.
Proposed changes to charter involve weed consumption
Antonio Cosme, an Eastern Michigan University graduate who heads the Committee for a Safer Ypsilanti, said at a press conference at EMU May 23 that his group will promote an amendment to the Ypsilanti city charter to make “possession of small amounts of cannabis the lowest law enforcement priority.” Charles Ream of the Coalition for a Safer Michigan, another group supporting and promoting the proposed amendment, said it offers students a chance to affect public policy. “This is not about marijuana,” Ream said.
