02414 -- Scott Stephenson Eastern Echo Scholarship:  This expendable scholarship is for the benefit of student(s) in the School of Communication, Media & Theater Arts in the College of Arts & Sciences.  It will be awarded to a full or part-time junior or senior EMU student majoring in journalism and working for the Eastern Echo.  The student should be working to self-finance their education and not be eligible for need-based grants.

Club hockey sweeps Slippery Rock, looks ahead to FGCU

Eastern Michigan University’s mens’ hockey team (4-9) took on Slippery Rock University (6-7) on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. Both games were played on home ice at Taylor Sportsplex in Taylor, Mich. The Eagles shut out Slippery Rock 7-0 on Friday and won 8-3 on Saturday.

Women's cross country continues winning tradition

Eastern Michigan University’s women’s cross country team continued its winning trend by racking up its fifth consecutive victory over Mid-American Conference foe Western Michigan University at the George Dales Invitational on Friday. The meet took place on a 6K course at Pine View Golf Club in Three Rivers, Mich. The Eagles scored 22 points to beat the Broncos’ 37 points.

Men's cross country takes three top-10 spots at Spartan Invitational

Eastern Michigan University’s men’s cross country team came out strong in its third meet of the season, taking three of the top-10 spots at the MSU-Auto Owners-Spartan Invitational on Friday. The 8K event sponsored by Playmakers included a field of more than 350 runners on Forest Akers East Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich.

David Bolyard named EMU Head Wrestling Coach

On Wednesday, June 25, Eastern Michigan University Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Heather Lyke announced that seven-year EMU Associate Head Wrestling Coach David Bolyard will take over as Head Coach of the EMU wrestling program effective immediately. The search for a new coach began in late May following the resignation of long time head coach Derek DelPorto.

EMU golfer named All-MAC honorable mention

Eastern Michigan University sophomore Brett White was added to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference honorable mention list when the conference announced its men’s golf scholastic honors, June 4. White, who plans on majoring in supply chain management, boasts a 3.49 GPA. This is the first year he has been eligible for the accolade.

EMU student-athletes find success in classroom

On Monday, June 2 the EMU Student-Athlete Support Services office announced that EMU student-athletes had continued to show their success in the classroom, ending the Winter 2014 semester with a 3.145 grade point average. This was the ninth consecutive semester the Eagles have surpassed the 3.0 mark.

Women’s Track & Field sends four to NCAA Division I championships

Eastern Michigan University’s women’s track and field completed their showing at the NCAA East Regional on May 30, with a total of three of the four Eagles that competed advancing to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, June 11-14 in Eugene, Ore.

7 Eagles qualify for NCAA Championship meets

Eastern Michigan University’s men’s track and field team competed in its last day of competition for the NCAA East Regionals on Saturday, May 31. At the end of the day, the Green and White had seven athletes who notched qualifying marks over three days for the NCAA Championship.

Eastern Michigan University announced Tuesday that Derek DelPorto resigned from the position of head coach of the men’s wrestling team. DelPorto served as the head coach of the squad for eight seasons.

Associate Athletics Director to Retire

Eastern Michigan University’s longtime Athletics Administrator Dr. Melody Reifel Werner has announced she will retire at the end of June. Werner has acted as director for Eastern’s Department of Athletics for 18 years. Reifel Werner, who recently celebrated her 57th birthday, believes the timing is right to conclude her successful career in athletic administration.
