The magic of Tony Hawk's Pro-Skater: a review

(04/03/17 5:16pm)

Let me lay down the facts like it is; the Tony Hawk games are the best sports video games ever made. Sorry FIFA, Madden, NBA, and all other competitors, no other sports video game franchise has mastered fun, addictive gameplay, controls, mechanics, and soundtrack like the birdman has. Even though the franchise has fallen from grace thanks to various crappy games, once upon a time, they were considered some of the greatest games ever made. They helped shaped the childhoods of many kids in the early 2000’s, including myself. That is why I am writing this tribute to the franchise right now. Let’s start with some history.

'For Honor' a truly unique game

(03/13/17 7:35pm)

Medieval Knights, Sea-faring Vikings, and Japanese Samurai were separated by many years and many miles from each other, making the possibility of them fighting each other to the death impossible in real life. However, fantasy has often brought them together to do such that for the purpose of entertaining audiences. Such is the case of Ubisoft’s latest I.P., For Honor. The latest game from Assassin’s Creed and Tom Clancy developer certainly gains points for premise, but does the full game earn glory, or die with no honor? Let’s find out.

A new year is upon us, and that means a brand-new set of games will be coming out. As a lifelong gamer myself, there are many games that specifically have my attention, and I am really looking forward to. Below is a list of some of the games that I can’t wait to play this year.

Anime Review: The first episode of "My Hero Academia"

(04/29/16 5:58pm)

Weekly Shōnen Jump has been responsible for publishing some of the most popular manga and anime series in history. Shōnen Jump series recently launched its first anime episode. My Hero Academia was created by Kōhei Horikoshi and had its first manga chapter serialized in the magazine in July of 2014. After two fledgling series, this is the first major success for the mangaka (manga creator).

DC Comics is going dark (and that's bad)

(03/27/16 3:16pm)

This past weekend is the weekend the highly anticipated “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” finally hit theaters. Bad news being that the film is getting mostly negative reviews from professional critics, with the most common criticism being that the film is just too dull and depressing for a movie about a man who dresses up as a bat, fighting a super-human alien. Looking over this movie, as well as recent DC Comics works, I have discovered a disturbing trend where the majority of them try to be as downbeat as possible in order to suck out all the joy of being a superhero. Intense violence, blood, gore, scary images, unnecessary “moral dilemmas” and more seem to be the standard for anything DC related these days; and quite frankly, it needs to stop.

Manga review: Assassination Classroom is brilliant

(02/28/16 12:34pm)

If you’re a fan of anime and/or manga, you would probably have to thank Weekly Shōnen Jump for publishing about half of your favorite series. Some of the classic series that have been published in the 48-year old Japanese manga magazine include Fist of the North Star, Dragon Ball, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, YuYu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin, Yu-Gi-Oh!, One Piece, Hunter x Hunter, Naruto, Bleach and Death Note.

Impractical Jokers kicks off fifth season

(02/14/16 1:30pm)

Sal, Joe, Murr, and Q are back for a fifth season of their hit hidden camera prank show, Impractical Jokers. Season five premiered last Thursday with the episode “HellCopter,” an episode that, while having a lot of good moments, doesn’t really have the same punch as some of the other episodes that began their previous seasons.
