The Mid-American Conference tournament is just around the corner for Eastern Michigan University’s women’s soccer team. It has one game remaining in the MAC, which will be at 3 p.m. Oct. 25 against Western Michigan University at Scicluna Field.
The women’s soccer team at Eastern Michigan University started their Mid-American Conference play Sept. 21 with two big victories on the road. EMU defeated Northern Illinois 1-0 in Dekalb, Ill. on Friday, and two days later defeated Toledo, the defending MAC Champions, 3-0.

The Eastern Michigan University women’s soccer team defeated their first Mid-American Conference opponent of the season Friday when they beat Northern Illinois University 1-0 on a penalty kick in the sixty-fourth minute.
“It usually hits me when I’m actually driving to the venue,” Eastern Michigan University student Greg Calvart said.
The Green Bay Packers’ defense held their own, and then some, in Thursday’s 23-10 victory over the Chicago Bears. With that win, the Packers won their seventh straight game against an NFC North opponent. More importantly, they won their first game of the season after their loss to the San Francisco 49ers in week one. The Packers improved their record to 1-1, while the Bears fall to 1-1.
Lydia Gomez-Diaz finished her freshman year at Eastern Michigan University, despite having had a hard time adjusting to changes in her life after moving to the U.S. from Spain 10 months ago, but Gomez-Diaz found a home on the EMU women’s track and field team.
On Friday night, people gathered to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers live in concert at Joe Louis Arena, home of the Detroit Red Wings. They rocked out, jammed-out and head-banged the whole night. The band received a standing ovation before the show and performed a two song encore. But, despite their performance, it was Detroit Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom’s appearance that received the biggest standing ovation that night.
The No. 1 and No. 2 seed out of the Western Conference have handled their competition through the first two rounds of the NBA Playoffs. The San Antonio Spurs swept the LA Clippers in four games, while the Oklahoma City Thunder closed out the LA Lakers in five games.
Eastern Michigan’s track and field teams wrapped up their season Saturday at the 2012 Mid-American Converence Outdoor Championship in Mount Pleasant. The men’s team finished fourth with 128 points overall, while the women’s team finished fifth with 78.33 points overall.
The defense for the women’s basketball team at Eastern Michigan University rose to the occasion Thursday against Saint Louis University at Seattle’s Holiday Hoops Tourney. Eastern (7-4) defeated St. Louis (4-9), 66-55 to advance to the Championship game of the Holiday Hoops Classic.
