The Eastern Michigan Eagles (10-8, 0-5) men’s basketball team fell to the Ohio Bobcats (10-8, 2-3) on Saturday, Jan. 18 at the Convocation Center. The Eagles were up 28-21 at halftime but lost 60-58. Noah Morgan had 23 points for EMU, while senior forward Ty Groce added 17 points, five rebounds and three steals.

The Eastern Michigan Eagles women’s track team traveled to Saginaw Valley State University for the Doug Hansen Open on Friday, Jan. 17. The Eagles competed in 11 events, including the 60-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 800-meter dash, 60-meter hurdles, the one-mile run and much more.

The Eastern Michigan women’s gymnastics team started the season 1-0 with a victory on the road versus Bowling Green State University on Saturday, Jan. 11. The final score was 194.875-193.325 in favor of the Eagles, who were led by Jada Rondeau, Emili Dobronics, Caitlin Satler, Kara Roberts and others.

Eastern Michigan football’s senior quarterback, Mike Glass III, was ejected with 10 seconds left in the Eagles 34-30 loss to Pittsburgh in the 2019 Quick Lane Bowl on Thursday, Dec. 26 at Ford Field. Glass received two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties after throwing two punches, one of which connected with a referee.

The Pittsburgh Panthers (8-5, 4-4) have defeated the Eastern Michigan Eagles (6-7, 3-5) in the 2019 Quick Lane Bowl on Thursday, Dec. 26 at Ford Field in Detroit. The final score was 34-30 as Pittsburgh was led by junior quarterback Kenny Pickett, who threw for 361 yards and three touchdowns. Eastern Michigan is now 1-4 all-time in bowl games.

The Eastern Michigan (9-2) men’s basketball team travelled to the Breslin Center to face the No. 15 Michigan State Spartans (9-3) on Saturday, Dec. 21. The Eagles now have a 9-2 record, tied with Kent State at the top of the MAC. The Spartans dominated the game from the tip-off, outscoring the Eagles 41-20 in the first half.

The Eastern Michigan Eagles (6-6, 3-5) will face the Pittsburgh Panthers (7-5, 4-4) in the Quick Lane Bowl on Thursday, Dec. 26 at Ford Field in Detroit. Both teams are just 2-3 in their last five outings and still have a bad taste in their mouths following losses in the regular season finale. EMU lost to Kent State, while Pittsburgh fell to Boston College.

The Eastern Michigan Eagles (3-6) defeated the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at the Convocation Center in Ypsilanti. The Eagles were led by Areanna Combs’ 17 points, four blocks, three steals and two assists. Combs shot 53.3 percent from the field in 26 minutes of action.

The Eastern Michigan Eagles (6-6, 3-5) will face the Pittsburgh Panthers (7-5, 4-4) in the Quick Lane Bowl on Thursday, Dec. 26 at Ford Field in Detroit. The announcement that these two will play was made on Sunday, Dec. 8. This is the fifth bowl game appearance in school history and the first time ever the Eagles have reached two straight bowl games.

The Eastern Michigan Eagles women’s swim and dive team completed the Denison Invitational, which began on Wednesday, Dec. 4. The final day of the tournament was on Saturday, Dec. 7 in Granville, Ohio at the Trumbell Aquatic Center. On the first day of events, divers Michaela Schempf and Bethany Berger both met NCAA Championship standards.

The Miami RedHawks (8-5, 6-2) have defeated the Central Michigan Chippewas (8-5, 6-2) in the 2019 MAC Championship Game on Saturday, Dec. 7 at Ford Field in Detroit, Mich. The final score was 26-21 In favor of the RedHawks, who were led by Brett Gabbert’s 196 yards. Both teams will be playing in a bowl game beginning on Saturday, Dec. 20.

The Eastern Michigan Eagles (7-1) defeated the Valparaiso Crusaders, 85-79, on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at the Convocation Center. The Eagles were led by Ty Groce’s 23 points, five rebounds and two assists. Noah Morgan added 21 points as well. Javon Freeman had a game-high 28 points and five rebounds for Valparaiso in the loss.

The Eastern Michigan Eagles (2-4) women’s basketball team fell to the Michigan Wolverines (5-1) on Wednesday, Nov. 27 at the Convocation Center. EMU got off to a slow start as they shot just 15.4% percent in the first quarter and weren’t able to recover as they fell 57-38. Natalia Pineda led the Eagles with 16 points and two rebounds.

The Eagles defeated Southeast Missouri State, 69-64, on Tuesday, Nov. 19 in Ypsilanti. EMU was led by freshman guard Aaliyah Stanley’s 24 points, four rebounds and two steals.

The Eagles upset North Texas (1-3) on Saturday, Nov. 16 at the University of North Texas Coliseum behind Ty Groce’s game-high 15 points.

Daveon Hunter, who is a 3-star running back according to 247 Sports, was offered a scholarship from the Eastern Michigan football program on Monday, Nov. 11. The senior running back is 5’10” and 200 pounds. He attends Chandler High School in Arizona and is slated to graduate at the end of the current school year.

Eastern Michigan men’s basketball head coach Rob Murphy, who just started his ninth season with the Eagles, released his first book over the summer. The book, “DEEP” is Murphy’s lifelong story through his eyes. Murphy discusses growing up in Detroit, getting his “dream job” at Syracuse University, learning life lessons through basketball and much more.
